How to Make Easter Egg Chocolate Caramels
Ready to get started? Here’s how to create chocolate Easter eggs, make a delicious caramel filling, and create your very own Easter egg chocolate caramel treats:
Making Chocolate Egg Shells
Melt the chocolate to the package instructions and smooth a medium thick coat into each of the eggs.
While the chocolate is still melted-but not really hot, spoon in about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of caramel. The exact amount needed will depend on how much chocolate is already in the egg.
Caramel Filled Chocolate Eggs
You want to make sure that you leave enough room for a thin chocolate layer over the caramel so try not to overfill.
Use a small spoon to gently even out the caramel filling in the eggs and then cap the eggs with an even layer of chocolate.
Chill the eggs in the freezer for about 10 to 20 minutes.
Carefully remove the eggs from the mold and set them on a cold plate or tray.
Drizzle the remaining chocolate over the eggs one at a time and add the sprinkles. (The drizzled chocolate will harden rather fast so you’ll want to work quickly on each one before moving to the next).
We store these in an airtight container in the fridge.
How Long Do Homemade Chocolate Caramels Last?
If you’re making these Easter egg chocolate caramels at my house, the answer is not long! I usually have to hide these delicious homemade treats from my family if I want them to make it to Easter. Individually wrapped caramels, stored in airtight containers or plastic bags stay fresh for 2 to 3 weeks at room temperature.
It’s important to be sure your chocolate caramel Easter eggs don’t get exposed to any moisture, so choose your container wisely.
Easter egg chocolate caramels do not need to be refrigerated. However, storing them in the fridge will make them easier to cut and help them to last longer. Remember, to enjoy soft Easter eggs, you’ll need to take them out of the fridge about 30 minutes before you plan to eat them.
Can I Freeze Easter Egg Chocolate Caramels?
Yes! These beautiful Easter egg chocolate caramels freeze really well. Place individually wrapped chocolate caramels in an airtight freezer bag to keep them for up to six months. It’s the perfect way to store any leftover chocolate caramel Easter eggs after the holiday.
However, you might want to set some aside to save if your family is anything like mine. We never have leftover chocolate caramel Easter eggs.
They’re too delicious to resist! Once you’ve tried them, come back and tell me how your family liked these delicious homemade Easter treats in the comment section.
