How to Make Emoji Cupcakes
Some of the ingredients you will need to make these emoji cupcakes is in this picture below. However, I have the full ingredients and recipe to print out towards the bottom of the page.
For this cool emoji cupcake idea, we started with a box cake mix. You can always use your favorite vanilla cake mix recipe, but sometimes it’s easier to go with a box.

One dozen vanilla cupcakes, baked and completely cooled down
½ stick of butter softened
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
1-2 tbsp milk
6-7 oz. yellow fondant
2-3 oz. red fondant
2-3 oz. black fondant
Once your cupcakes are baked, you’ll need to cover each in yellow fondant. All of these cupcakes use this yellow fondant as a base, so go ahead and do them all.

In a small bowl, beat together your butter, confectioners’ sugar, and milk. Once the ingredients are combined and form semi-stiff peaks, the buttercream is ready to use. If you are not interested in making your own buttercream feel free to use store bought white icing.
Frost each cupcake.

Roll out the yellow fondant until it’s about a quarter of an inch thick then use the two-inch cookie cutter to cut out 12 fondant circles.

Next, you’ll want to press each circle on the top of a cupcake.

To Make Heart Emoji Faces
- Roll out 2 spheres from the red fondant, about 1/3 of an inch in size.
- Divide one sphere in two and form them into small ovals.
- Press the bottom both ovals together and shape and form until it looks like a heart.
- Repeat with the other sphere.
- Lightly brush water on the back of each heart and place it on the yellow surface as the “eyes.”
- Roll out black fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch thick.
- Use the bottom end of the large Wilton tip to cut out 6 circles.
- Use a paring knife to cut each circle in half – this will act as the face’s smile.
- Brush water on the back of each smile to secure them to the yellow fondant.
